The album was written in three weeks. It was engineered by Doug Oberkircher and mixed by Kevin Shirley. There are some connections to previous and following albums of the band:<br />The album has seven songs, while its predecessor (<a title="Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_Degrees_of_Inner_Turbulence">Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence</a>) has six and its successor (<a title="Octavarium" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octavarium">Octavarium</a>) has eight.<br />The first song "As I Am" starts with the ending synth/orchestral chord of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and the ending piano note (F) of "In the Name of God" is the first note of Octavarium's "The Root of All Evil".<br />"This Dying Soul" continues Mike Portnoy's <a class="mw-redirect" title="Alcoholics Anonymous suite" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcoholics_Anonymous_suite">Alcoholics Anonymous suite</a>, started with "<a title="The Glass Prison" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Glass_Prison">The Glass Prison</a>" on Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and later continued with <a title="Octavarium" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octavarium">Octavarium</a>'s "<a title="The Root of All Evil (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Root_of_All_Evil_%28song%29">The Root of All Evil</a>" and <a title="Systematic Chaos" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Systematic_Chaos">Systematic Chaos</a> "<a title="Repentance (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repentance_%28song%29">Repentance</a>". The songs share some of the lyrics and melodies.<br /><p><br />The Chant/Hymn at the end of "In the Name of God" (from 12:56 onwards, coming from the right-side speaker) is the <a title="American Civil War" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Civil_War">American civil war</a> <a title="Hymn" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hymn">hymn</a> "<a class="mw-redirect" title="Battle Hymn of the Republic" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Hymn_of_the_Republic">Battle Hymn of the Republic</a>".<br />"Honor Thy Father" was written about Mike Portnoy's stepfather. When asked about what inspired him to write that song, he stated in an <a class="mw-redirect" title="IRC" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRC">IRC</a> chat: "I'm not very good at writing love songs, so I decided to write a HATE song!!!"<br />Between 05:51 and 06:07 of the song "In the Name of God", there was a hidden composition buried beneath the far louder sounds of the song itself which lay undiscovered for over a year and a half. The band did not tell anyone that a hidden "nugget" (as it became known amongst Dream Theater fans) was present in the song, and only when Mike Portnoy mentioned it in his Mike Portnoy: Live at Budokan Drum-Cam DVD over a year later did someone find it. The Mike Portnoy message board was rife with fans scouring the song looking for what it might be, until a fan going by the pseudonymous name "DarrylRevok" mentioned that from 05:51 to 06:07 there appeared to be <a title="Morse code" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morse_code">morse code</a> audible, which Nick Bogovich (user handle "Bogie") isolated and discovered that when translated to English, the phrase "eat my ass and balls" (a Mike Portnoy catchphrase) was the result.<br />The bridge of "In the Name of God" contains references to several noted cult leaders, including <a title="David Koresh" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Koresh">David Koresh</a>, <a title="Marshall Applewhite" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshall_Applewhite">Marshall Applewhite</a>, and <a title="Jim Jones" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Jones">Jim Jones</a>.<br />Stream of Consciousness is the longest Dream Theater instrumental to date (not counting live mash-ups such as <a title="Instrumedley" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instrumedley">Instrumedley</a>).<br />Some lyrics of As I Am were inspired by Dream Theater's 2003 summer tour with <a class="mw-redirect" title="Queensryche" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queensryche">Queensryche</a>, described by Mike Portnoy as an "irksome series of shows." According to Portnoy, Queensryche guitarist <a title="Mike Stone (musician)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Stone_%28musician%29">Mike Stone</a> tried giving <a title="John Petrucci" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Petrucci">John Petrucci</a> tips on playing guitar, leading Petrucci to write the lyrics. Jordan Rudess played the final note in the album (In The Name of God minute 14:8) with his nose as shown in Making The Train of Thought documentary, Mike Portnoy approved the take in the video while he was filming. </p><p><strong><em>Personnel:</em></strong></p><p><a title="James LaBrie" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_LaBrie">James LaBrie</a> – <a class="mw-redirect" title="Vocals" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocals">Vocals</a><br /><a title="John Myung" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Myung">John Myung</a> – <a title="Bass guitar" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_guitar">Bass</a><br /><a title="John Petrucci" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Petrucci">John Petrucci</a> – <a title="Guitar" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar">Guitars</a>, <a class="mw-redirect" title="Backing vocals" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backing_vocals">backing vocals</a><br /><a title="Mike Portnoy" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Portnoy">Mike Portnoy</a> – <a title="Drum" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drum">Drums</a>, <a class="mw-redirect" title="Backing vocals" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backing_vocals">backing vocals</a><br /><a title="Jordan Rudess" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordan_Rudess">Jordan Rudess</a> – <a title="Keyboard instrument" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_instrument">Keyboards</a> </p><p><strong><em>Song:</em></strong><br />"As I Am" – 7:47 (Petrucci)<br />"<a title="This Dying Soul" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Dying_Soul">This Dying Soul</a>" – 11:28 (Portnoy)<br />"<a title="Endless Sacrifice" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endless_Sacrifice">Endless Sacrifice</a>" – 11:23 (Petrucci)<br />"Honor Thy Father" – 10:14 (Portnoy)<br />"Vacant" – 2:58 (LaBrie)<br />"<a title="Stream of Consciousness (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stream_of_Consciousness_%28song%29">Stream of Consciousness</a>" – 11:16 (instrumental)<br />"In The Name of God" – 14:16 (Petrucci) </p><p>Link: <a href="http://w13.easy-share.com/1699647945.html" target="_blank">http://w13.easy-share.com/1699647945.html</a></p>Jordökhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18052166527430650297noreply@blogger.com56tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4360873736137190069.post-26874296596806601792008-04-13T18:50:00.000-07:002008-04-13T18:53:00.480-07:00Frank Zappa - Weasels Ripped My Flesh(1970)<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJXjkfPn5YWhgUQlcaFffub2kfnE-yX_hWMk6KhRy_v9F54fR3FjxKfXJOtq1RlKi2-s5mhjBfKa2yaR4U5s6ji7cItuGzoUXtZmye1eQ_hh66UoL9Y0q_8ScqWAeYhyphenhyphenlFc048vNSRdEU/s1600-h/zappa+weasels.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5188912583243560674" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJXjkfPn5YWhgUQlcaFffub2kfnE-yX_hWMk6KhRy_v9F54fR3FjxKfXJOtq1RlKi2-s5mhjBfKa2yaR4U5s6ji7cItuGzoUXtZmye1eQ_hh66UoL9Y0q_8ScqWAeYhyphenhyphenlFc048vNSRdEU/s320/zappa+weasels.jpg" border="0" /></a> Weasels Ripped My Flesh is an <a title="Album" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Album">album</a> by <a class="mw-redirect" title="Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Zappa_and_the_Mothers_of_Invention">Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention</a>, released in 1970 (see <a title="1970 in music" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1970_in_music">1970 in music</a>).<br />Conceptually, the album could be considered Phase Two of <a title="Burnt Weeny Sandwich" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burnt_Weeny_Sandwich">Burnt Weeny Sandwich</a>. Both albums consist of previously unreleased Mothers tracks released after the demise of the original band. Whereas the pieces on Burnt Weeny Sandwich generally have a more rigid and planned feel captured by quality studio equipment, Weasels Ripped My Flesh mostly captures the Mothers on stage, where they employ frenetic and chaotic improvisation characteristic of <a title="Avant-garde" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avant-garde">avant-garde</a> <a title="Free jazz" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_jazz">free jazz</a>. The album's infamous closer and title track is nothing more than every man on stage producing as much noise and feedback as they can for two minutes. Interestingly, an audience member is heard yelling for more at its conclusion. The album also contains such surprising treats as <a title="'Don" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_%22Sugarcane%22_Harris">Don "Sugarcane" Harris</a>'s straight-ahead blues violin and vocal performance of "Directly From My Heart to You".<br />Burnt Weeny Sandwich and Weasels Ripped My Flesh were also reissued together on vinyl as 2 Originals of the Mothers of Invention, with the original covers used as the left and right sides of the inner spread, and the front cover depicting a pistol shooting toothpaste onto a toothbrush.<br /><br /><strong><em>Personnel:<br /></em></strong>Frank Zappa – <a title="Lead guitar" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead_guitar">lead guitar</a>, <a class="mw-redirect" title="Vocals" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocals">vocals</a><br /><a title="Jimmy Carl Black" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Carl_Black">Jimmy Carl Black</a> – <a class="mw-redirect" title="Drums" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drums">drums</a><br /><a title="Ray Collins (rock musician)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Collins_%28rock_musician%29">Ray Collins</a> – vocals<br /><a title="Roy Estrada" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Estrada">Roy Estrada</a> – <a title="Bass guitar" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_guitar">bass</a>, vocals<br />Bunk Gardner – <a class="mw-redirect" title="Tenor sax" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenor_sax">tenor sax</a><br /><a title="Lowell George" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lowell_George">Lowell George</a> – <a title="Rhythm guitar" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhythm_guitar">rhythm guitar</a>, vocals<br /><a title="'Don" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_%22Sugarcane%22_Harris">Don "Sugarcane" Harris</a> – vocals, electric violin<br />Don Preston – <a title="Organ (music)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organ_%28music%29">organ</a>, electronic effects<br />Buzz Gardner – <a title="Trumpet" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trumpet">trumpet</a> and <a class="mw-redirect" title="Flugel horn" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flugel_horn">flugel horn</a><br />Motorhead Sherwood – baritone saxophone, snorks<br />Art Tripp – drums<br />Ian Underwood – alto saxophone<br /><br /><strong><em>Songs:</em></strong><br /><strong>Side one</strong><br />"Didja Get Any Onya?" The EP was released in limited quantities in 2003 and is now difficult to find. Due to this, the EP has become a collectors item among Volta fans, sometimes selling for up to $150 on <a title="EBay" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EBay">eBay</a>. The first two tracks were recorded live at the XFM Studio in <a title="London" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London">London</a>, 2003. The last two tracks were recorded at the <a title="Electric Ballroom" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Ballroom">Electric Ballroom</a> in <a title="London" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London">London</a> on July 9, 2003.<br />During the jam in "Drunkship," part of "Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus" from <a title="Frances the Mute" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frances_the_Mute">Frances the Mute</a> is played.<br />The album artwork is from the fable of <a title="Arachne" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arachne">Arachne</a> (also Arachné). It has also been used as the backdrop during the band's live performances. <div> </div><div><strong><em>Songs:<br /></em></strong>"Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of)" – 9:29<br />"Drunkship of Lanterns" – 9:38<br />"Cicatriz ESP" – 16:03<br />"Televators" – 7:18 </div><div> </div><div>Link:<a href="http://rapidshare.com/files/55505237/MarsVolta-Live_EP_.rar">http://rapidshare.com/files/55505237/MarsVolta-Live_EP_.rar</a></div>Jordökhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18052166527430650297noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4360873736137190069.post-35043347614314097022008-04-13T18:32:00.000-07:002008-04-13T18:38:34.256-07:00The Mars Volta - Scabdates<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkXgM6OtVhiKZKYGVkmeizq3y5N-ZGIG1BMqJ61h43kSvlra2dZx5-ffVCE4C2C6XRyCCA08JaX3DxHAQt831tUL4NJqPKLMG7wlW7dbt6xohlpjY7pF4OJ0ouoeh1CDWdp4K8mib5wt8/s1600-h/mars+volta.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5188908451485021874" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkXgM6OtVhiKZKYGVkmeizq3y5N-ZGIG1BMqJ61h43kSvlra2dZx5-ffVCE4C2C6XRyCCA08JaX3DxHAQt831tUL4NJqPKLMG7wlW7dbt6xohlpjY7pF4OJ0ouoeh1CDWdp4K8mib5wt8/s320/mars+volta.jpg" border="0" /></a> Scabdates is the second official live recording from the band <a title="The Mars Volta" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mars_Volta">The Mars Volta</a>. It was released on <a title="November 8" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/November_8">November 8</a>, <a title="2005" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005">2005</a> and features music recorded between May 2004 and May 2005 during the 2004-2005 tour in support of <a title="Frances the Mute" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frances_the_Mute">Frances the Mute</a>.<br />While the disc contains twelve tracks, only three of the band's songs are represented; many of the tracks constitute expansions on musical themes which appear elsewhere in their work, or entirely new segments altogether. For example, the lengthy exposition on "Cicatriz," which combined with its introduction "Haruspex", comprises 48 minutes of the disc and incorporates into its lengthy <a title="Jam session" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jam_session">jam</a> themes which would later be used in "Cassandra Gemini" (the performance excerpted here was recorded on <a title="May 12" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_12">May 12</a>, <a title="2004" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004">2004</a>, almost a year before Frances the Mute was released). Oddly enough, while the renditions of "Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt" and "Cicatriz" are much longer than their album counterparts, the Scabdates version of "Concertina" is actually 37 seconds shorter than its <a title="Tremulant EP" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tremulant_EP">Tremulant EP</a> counterpart.<br />The Mars Volta have freely encouraged the trading of <a title="Bootleg recording" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bootleg_recording">bootlegged</a> live performances, but Scabdates was lauded by many fans for its superior <a title="Sound quality" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_quality">sound quality</a> and for being the first official recording that captured the Volta's lengthy experimental workouts during live performances. IGN however, <a class="external text" title="http://music.ign.com/articles/681/681286p1.html" href="http://music.ign.com/articles/681/681286p1.html" rel="nofollow">described</a> the experimentation as "sonic meandering which some regard as genius and others find to be a futile exercise in pretentious instrumental masturbation." No matter what one thinks of the band's <a title="Avant-garde" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avant-garde">avant-garde</a> style of jamming, it is undeniably the source of the definitive split between the fans and critics of live Mars Volta performances.<br />While the material on Scabdates is drawn almost entirely from live performances, the music doesn't appear exactly as performed; Part IV of "Cicatriz" incorporates a full eight-minute, <a title="Psychedelic music" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychedelic_music">psychedelic</a> <a title="Sound collage" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_collage">sound collage</a> of many other Mars Volta live performances (notably, performances of "Eunuch Provocateur" and "Cassandra Gemini") that was not featured in the original performance, along with edited recordings of what sounds like Omar laughing, Cedric and other people talking, coughing, laughing, etc. A voice can be heard saying "Don't you remind me of Jeremy", referring to former soundman <a class="mw-redirect" title="Jeremy Ward" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Ward">Jeremy Ward</a>. "Abrasions Mount the Timpani" also features <a title="Sampling (music)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sampling_%28music%29">sound samples</a> of mewling babies and <a title="Airliner" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airliner">airliner</a> announcements that Omar recorded while on the road with the band. The attempt lands him in a week-long coma during which he experiences visions of humanity and his own psyche. Upon waking, he is dissatisfied with the real world and jumps to his death. The story of Cerpin Taxt is based on the death of <a title="El Paso, Texas" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Paso%2C_Texas">El Paso, Texas</a> artist (and Bixler-Zavala's friend) Julio Venegas.<br />De-Loused became both critically and commercially their biggest hit, eventually selling in excess of 500,000 copies despite next-to-no promotion, and was featured on several critics' "Best of the Year" lists . The album was ranked number 55 on the October 2006 issue of Guitar World magazine's list of the 100 greatest guitar albums of all time.<br />The music contained in De-Loused is distinguished by its enigmatic lyrics, <a title="Jazz" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jazz">Jazz</a> rhythms, odd <a title="Time signature" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_signature">time signatures</a>, and <a class="mw-redirect" title="Omar Rodriguez-Lopez" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omar_Rodriguez-Lopez">Omar Rodriguez-Lopez</a>'s frenetic guitar <a title="Riff" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riff">riffs</a>, which are often harshly dissonant. The film was released straight to video in <a title="1987" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987">1987</a>.<br />Uncle Meat marked an evolution in frontman <a title="Frank Zappa" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Zappa">Frank Zappa</a>'s career, moving further into <a title="Jazz" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jazz">jazz</a> and <a title="European classical music" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_classical_music">classical</a> music—as Zappa saw them. It also contains half-mocking, half-<a title="Homage" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homage">homage</a> elements of <a title="Doo-wop" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doo-wop">doo-wop</a>, <a title="Blues" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blues">blues</a>, <a title="Rock and roll" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_and_roll">rock and roll</a>, and sound clips from the movie. The album is united by its dreamy melodies, stream of consciousness lyrics (many about places and events in suburban <a title="Los Angeles" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles">LA</a> teenagers' lives), and a set of musical themes and subthemes and variations idiomatic of film soundtracks. It also features <a title="Suzy Creamcheese" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzy_Creamcheese">Suzy Creamcheese</a>.<br />The CD version was released in 1987, and contained a new song, "Tengo Na Minchia Tanta" (meaning "I've Got a Big Cock" in <a title="Sicilian language" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sicilian_language">Sicilian</a>), sung in <a title="Italian language" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_language">Italian</a> by Massimo Bassoli, and nearly 40 minutes' worth of sound-bites from the movie. However, many fans have resented these additions, since "Tengo Na Minchia Tanta" was recorded in an entirely different time period, and the movie soundbites are considered by some to be superfluous to the listening tracks. Additionally, their additions force the reissue to use two discs, when the album in its original form could fit on just one disc. Many fans refer to these so-called bonuses as "penalty tracks."<br /><br /><strong><em>Personnel:</em></strong><br />Frank Zappa – <a title="Guitar" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Amarok is a <a title="Album" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Album">record album</a> written and mostly performed by <a title="Mike Oldfield" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Oldfield">Mike Oldfield</a>. It was his thirteenth album and is considered by fans to be his most distinctive work: a single sixty-minute track of continuous, uninterrupted but constantly-changing music. It is also noted for having almost none of the music or sound generated purely by electronic means, Oldfield eschewing synthesizers for "real" instruments and sound sources.<br /><br /><strong>Background</strong><br /><a title="Virgin Records" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_Records">Virgin Records</a> had been trying to convince Oldfield to release a sequel to <a title="Tubular Bells" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tubular_Bells">Tubular Bells</a>, though probably more for the name recognition than anything else, particularly as Oldfield's contract was due to expire. Instead, he created an album that seems to have been designed to be as much a delight to his fans as it was a frustration to Virgin.<br /><br />It is next to impossible to isolate any one short, radio-friendly section of Amarok without it seeming out of place, and thus no single could be cut and released separately, nor could the album ever be played on popular radio. Similarly, Amarok has never been performed live in its entirety, though Oldfield has played excerpts from time to time. Oldfield had expressed many times his displeasure at Virgin's lack of promotion of his works, and Amarok might have been his revenge: a completely unmarketable album that still showcased his talent as a composer and performer. Oldfield did attempt to circumvent Virgin and create publicity for the album by offering a prize of £1000 of his own money to the first person to find the "secret message" hidden within it,although the competition received little coverage and consequently its impact on sales was negligible.<br />The message was actually a piece of <a title="Morse code" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morse_code">Morse code</a> found 48 minutes into the piece and spelling out "FUCK OFF RB", a direct statement to Virgin chief <a title="Richard Branson" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Branson">Richard Branson</a>.<br />In addition to his usual impressive list of instruments, Oldfield also employed a number of items in Amarok's creation such as shoes, <a title="Spoon" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoon#A_musical_instrument">spoons</a>, a <a title="The Hoover Company" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hoover_Company">Hoover</a> <a title="Vacuum cleaner" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vacuum_cleaner">vacuum cleaner</a> and "contents of <a title="Model airplane" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model_airplane">aeromodeller's</a> toolbox".<br /><br />Both Amarok, along with <a title="Heaven's Open" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heaven%27s_Open">Heaven's Open</a> (Oldfield's final album for Virgin) can be seen as a definite "farewell" to the company, and not an overly polite one, either. Along with the aforementioned Morse code message, the album's back cover reads: " HEALTH WARNING - This record could be hazardous to the health of cloth-eared nincompoops. If you suffer from this condition, consult your Doctor immediately ".<br /><br />Though tubular bells are used on the album, they are ambiguously listed in the liner notes as "long thin metallic hanging tubes," possibly a humorous way for Oldfield to avoid bringing to mind his <a title="Tubular Bells" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tubular_Bells">first work</a>. This may also have been one more snub at Virgin. Oldfield did not release the much-desired <a title="Tubular Bells II" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tubular_Bells_II">sequel to Tubular Bells</a> until he was with <a title="Warner Bros. Records" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warner_Bros._Records">Warner Bros. Records</a>.<br />Many fans do claim that Amarok is to be considered "Ommadawn II", and certainly, Oldfield seems to have involved many of the same people that were a part of <a title="Ommadawn" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ommadawn">Ommadawn</a>: Jabula, Clodagh Simmonds, and Paddy Maloney performed on both. Also, <a title="William Murray" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Murray">William Murray</a>, who co-wrote the song "On Horseback" for Ommadawn, took the Amarok cover photo and wrote the short story included in the liner notes. Oldfield himself reportedly said in an interview, "It's not "Tubular Bells II"; if anything, it's "Ommadawn II".<br /><br />The origin of the name has always been a point of contention. Oldfield has said in the past that it was chosen for its sound rather than any particular meaning, but numerous theories abound:<br />"Amaroq" is <a title="Inuktitut" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inuktitut">Inuktitut</a> for "<a title="Wolf" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf">wolf</a>" - in particular, <a title="Amarok (wolf)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amarok_%28wolf%29">Amarok</a> is the name of a giant wolf in Inuit mythology, reputed to hunt down lone travellers, and used by parents to frighten children.<br />"Amárach" is <a title="Irish language" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_language">Irish</a> for "tomorrow." It is pronounced with a long second 'a'.<br />The words "amarok" and "amadán" (the origin of <a title="Ommadawn" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ommadawn">Ommadawn</a>) begin with roughly the same "ama" sound, and there is sufficient evidence that Amarok is a sequel of sorts to Ommadawn.<br />It could also be that since this was the next to last album that Oldfield did for Virgin Records, it may have been a pun on "(I) am a rock" that is, that Oldfield was stating that he was capable of standing on his own without Virgin.<br />The final part, "Africa", has the "Sondela" chorus sung in <a title="Xhosa language" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xhosa_language">Xhosa</a>. In this prefix-based African language, the language itself is isiXhosa, and the nation is amaXhosa (prefix ama- for many people). Hence, "amaRok" could also be pig Xhosa for "the people of Rock" or "the rock people".<br />Speaking to a Dutch journalist soon after Amarok's release, Mike Oldfield commented on the title: " It doesn't have a real meaning but it's similar to many <a title="Scottish Gaelic language" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Gaelic_language">Gaelic</a> words, like those for morning or happy. And if you split the letters up, you get Am-a-rok... it could mean: am a rock. Maybe that implies I don't want to change anything by following trends. It is his third album. The cover photograph was by <a title="David Bailey (photographer)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Bailey_%28photographer%29">David Bailey</a>. It peaked at #4 on the UK albums chart.<br />As with <a title="Hergest Ridge (album)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hergest_Ridge_%28album%29">Hergest Ridge</a> and <a title="Tubular Bells" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tubular_Bells">Tubular Bells</a>, Ommadawn is another two-movement work. Here Oldfield sought out the ancient <a title="Celtic music" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_music">Celtic</a> influence on English music and composed for traditional instruments such as <a title="Northumbrian bagpipes" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northumbrian_bagpipes">Northumbrian bagpipes</a> on the original LP version.<br />When Oldfield remastered the work for compact disc release he inserted an <a title="Uilleann pipe" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uilleann_pipe">Uilleann pipe</a>. He also involved musicians noted for their work in folk music including <a class="new" title="Clodagh Simonds" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Clodagh_Simonds&action=edit">Clodagh Simonds</a> and <a title="Paddy Moloney" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paddy_Moloney">Paddy Moloney</a>. He combined this with heavy African influences, mainly by the use of the drummers of <a title="Jabula" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jabula">Jabula</a>. This makes Ommadawn one of the first successful <a title="World music" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_music">world music</a> albums in Europe.<br />A <a title="Quadrophonic" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadrophonic">Quadrophonic</a> remix version of Ommadawn was released on Boxed a year later. The 1990 album <a title="Amarok (album)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amarok_%28album%29">Amarok</a> is often seen as a sequel to Ommadawn.<br /><br />Though the actual work Ommadawn is two parts, there is a third track found on the album, a short vocal song by Mike Oldfield and William Murray called "On Horseback". "On Horseback" relates to Oldfield, Murray and Leslie Penning's time riding ponies around the area of Hergest Ridge.<br />In December 1975 Mike released the single "<a title="In Dulci Jubilo (Mike Oldfield)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Dulci_Jubilo_%28Mike_Oldfield%29">In Dulci Jubilo</a>", with "On Horseback" as the B-side. It reached number 4 in the UK in January 1976. In France, "In Dulci Jubilo" was coupled to a remix of the end of part 1 of Ommadawn. Some copies of the album also include "In Dulci Jubilo" at the end.<br /><br /><strong><em>Personnel</em></strong><br /><a title="Mike Oldfield" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Oldfield">Mike Oldfield</a> – <a title="Acoustic bass" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acoustic_bass">acoustic bass</a>, <a title="Steel-string guitar" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel-string_guitar">acoustic guitar</a>, <a title="Banjo" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banjo">banjo</a>, <a title="Bouzouki" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouzouki">bouzouki</a>, <a title="Bodhrán" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodhr%C3%A1n">bodhrán</a>, <a title="Classical guitar" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classical_guitar">classical guitar</a>, <a title="Bass guitar" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_guitar">electric bass</a>, <a title="Electric guitar" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_guitar">electric guitars</a>, <a title="Electronic organ" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_organ">electronic organs</a>, <a title="Glockenspiel" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glockenspiel">glockenspiel</a>, <a title="Harp" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harp">harp</a>, <a title="Mandolin" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandolin">mandolin</a>, <a title="Percussion instrument" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percussion_instrument">percussion</a>, <a title="Piano" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piano">piano</a>, <a title="Spinet" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinet">spinet</a>, <a title="Steel guitar" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel_guitar">steel guitar</a>, <a title="Synthesizer" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthesizer">synthesizers</a>, <a title="Twelve-string guitar" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelve-string_guitar">twelve-string guitar</a> and vocals.<br /><a class="new" title="Don Blakeson" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Don_Blakeson&action=edit">Don Blakeson</a> - The album was produced by <a title="Frank Zappa" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Zappa">Frank Zappa</a>, a friend and former schoolmate of Beefheart (also known as Don Van Vliet), and was originally released on Zappa's own <a title="Straight Records" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight_Records">Straight Records</a> imprint in 1969. Combining <a title="Blues" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blues">blues</a>, <a title="Free jazz" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_jazz">free jazz</a>, and other apparently disparate genres of American music, it is regarded as an important work of <a title="Experimental music" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experimental_music">experimental music</a> and appears at number 58 on the <a title="List of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Rolling_Stone%27s_500_Greatest_Albums_of_All_Time">List of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time</a>.<br /><a id="Production" name="Production"></a><br />Production:<br /><br />Trout Mask Replica was released in June 1969 on Frank Zappa's newly formed <a title="Straight Records" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight_Records">Straight Records</a> label. By this time, the Magic Band included guitarist <a title="Zoot Horn Rollo" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoot_Horn_Rollo">Bill Harkleroad</a> and bassist <a title="Rockette Morton" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockette_Morton">Mark Boston</a>. However, Van Vliet had also begun assigning nicknames to his band members, so Harkleroad is better known as "Zoot Horn Rollo," and Boston as "Rockette Morton," while John French becomes "Drumbo," and Jeff Cotton is "Antennae Jimmy Semens." According to Van Vliet, the 28 songs on the album were quickly written in a number of milliseconds, though band members have stated that he worked on the compositions for roughly 3 weeks using a piano as his writing tool. Drummer John French took the parts, transcribed them to musical notation, and assigned them to each instrument. The group rehearsed Van Vliet's difficult compositions for eight months, living <a title="Commune (intentional community)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commune_%28intentional_community%29">communally</a> in conditions <a title="Drum" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drum">drummer</a> <a title="John French (musician)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_French_%28musician%29">John French</a> described as "cultlike". The Magic Band was holed up in Van Vliet's home in Los Angeles, restricted from leaving the house, eating very little, and practicing for 14 or more hours a day. Van Vliet wanted the whole band to "live" the "Trout Mask Replica" album. When the time finally arrived to record, the band was able to knock out the pieces flawlessly and lead to a very brief recording process.<br />The 28 songs on Trout Mask Replica draw on <a title="Blues" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blues">blues</a> music, <a title="Bo Diddley" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bo_Diddley">Bo Diddley</a>, <a title="Free jazz" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_jazz">free jazz</a>, and <a title="Sea shanty" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_shanty">sea shanties</a> but the relentless practice blended the music into an <a title="Iconoclast" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iconoclast">iconoclastic</a> whole of conflicting <a title="Tempo" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempo">tempi</a>, harsh <a title="Slide guitar" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slide_guitar">slide guitar</a>, loping drumming, and honking <a title="Saxophone" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saxophone">saxophone</a> and <a title="Bass clarinet" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_clarinet">bass clarinet</a>. Van Vliet's vocals range from growling blues singing to frenzied <a title="Falsetto" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falsetto">falsetto</a> to laconic, casual ramblings. His <a title="Lyrics" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyrics">lyrics</a> often seem impenetrably strange and nonsensical, but closer examination actually reveals complex <a title="Poetry" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poetry">poetic</a> use of <a title="Wordplay" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wordplay">wordplay</a>, <a title="Metaphor" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaphor">metaphor</a> and all manner of references: <a title="Music history" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_history">music history</a>, American and international <a title="Politics" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics">politics</a>, the <a title="Holocaust" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocaust">Holocaust</a>, <a title="Love" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love">love</a> and <a title="Human sexuality" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_sexuality">sexuality</a>, <a title="Steve Reich" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Reich">Steve Reich</a>, <a title="Gospel music" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gospel_music">gospel music</a>, <a title="Conformity" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conformity">conformity</a>. Although the album was effectively recorded live, Van Vliet recorded much of the vocals whilst isolated from the rest of the band in a different room, only being in partial synch with the music by hearing the slight sound leakage through the studio window.<br />Van Vliet used the ensuing publicity, particularly with a 1970 Rolling Stone interview with <a title="Langdon Winner" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Langdon_Winner">Langdon Winner</a>, to promulgate a number of myths which have subsequently been quoted as fact. Winner's article stated, for instance, that neither Van Vliet nor the members of the Magic Band ever took drugs, but guitarist <a title="Bill Harkleroad" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Harkleroad">Bill Harkleroad</a> later discredited this. Van Vliet also claimed to have taught both Harkleroad and bassist Mark Boston from scratch; in fact the pair were already accomplished musicians before joining the band.<br /><br />Legacy:<br /><br /><a title="BBC" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC">BBC</a> <a title="Disc jockey" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disc_jockey">DJ</a> <a title="John Peel" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Peel">John Peel</a> said of the album: "If there has been anything in the history of popular music which could be described as a work of art in a way that people who are involved in other areas of art would understand, then Trout Mask Replica is probably that work."Peel's playing of the record on late-night radio in <a title="United Kingdom" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom">Britain</a> was largely responsible for its reaching 21 in the UK charts.<br />Critic Steve Huey writes that the album's influence "was felt more in spirit than in direct copycatting, as a catalyst rather than a literal musical starting point. However, its inspiring reimagining of what was possible in a rock context laid the groundwork for countless experiments in rock surrealism to follow, especially during the punk/new wave era."<a title="Matt Groening" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Groening">Matt Groening</a> has written that his first reaction to Trout Mask Replica was that it was "the worst thing [he]'d ever heard", but now lists the album as one of his favorites. In his 1995 book, "The Alternative Music Almanac", Alan Cross placed the album in the #2 spot on the list of '10 Classic Alternative Albums'. In 1995, <a title="Mojo (magazine)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mojo_%28magazine%29">Mojo</a> named it the 28th on their "The 100 Greatest Albums Ever Made" list and 51st on their "The 100 Records That Changed the World" list.<br /><a id="Track_listing" name="Track_listing"></a><br />Track listing:<br /><br />All songs written by Van Vliet. In 1999 the <a title="RIAA" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA">RIAA</a> certified The Wall at 23x platinum, denoting sales of 11.5 million copies of the double album in the United States. The album reached #1 on the <a title="Billboard 200" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_200">Billboard album charts</a> in the US where it stayed for 15 consecutive weeks in early 1980, and it remained on the US charts for two years. The Wall was the last <a title="Pink Floyd" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Floyd">Pink Floyd</a> album to feature Rick Wright until his return in 1987. title="Album" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Album">album</a> by <a title="The Rolling Stones" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rolling_Stones">The Rolling Stones</a> and was released in 1976. It is notable for being their first studio album following guitarist <a title="Mick Taylor" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mick_Taylor">Mick Taylor</a>'s departure. <a title="Ron Wood" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Wood">Ron Wood</a> became a full member of the band while this album was being produced. However, he only appears on about half the songs: <a title="Wayne Perkins" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_Perkins">Wayne Perkins</a> and <a title="Harvey Mandel" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvey_Mandel">Harvey Mandel</a> play lead guitar on the remaining tracks.<br /><br /><br />History:<br /><br />With barely any time to catch their breath following Mick Taylor's quitting, The Rolling Stones returned to <a title="Munich" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich">Munich</a>, <a title="Germany" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germany">Germany</a> - the site of <a title="It's Only Rock'n Roll" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_Only_Rock%27n_Roll">It's Only Rock'n Roll</a>'s recording - in December 1974 and began the recording of their new album at <a title="Musicland Studios" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musicland_Studios">Musicland Studios</a>, with <a title="Mick Jagger" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mick_Jagger">Mick Jagger</a> and <a title="Keith Richards" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Richards">Keith Richards</a> (at the time under a heavy <a title="Heroin addiction" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroin_addiction">heroin addiction</a>) - as <a title="The Glimmer Twins" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Glimmer_Twins">The Glimmer Twins</a> - producing again. With a view to have it released in time for the summer 1975 <a title="Rolling Stones Tour of the Americas '75" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_Stones_Tour_of_the_Americas_%2775">Tour of the Americas</a>, the band broke for the holidays and returned in January in <a title="Rotterdam" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotterdam">Rotterdam</a>, <a title="Netherlands" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netherlands">Netherlands</a> to continue the good work - all the while auditioning new guitarists as they recorded. Among the hopefuls were <a title="Jeff Beck" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Beck">Jeff Beck</a>, <a title="Rory Gallagher" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rory_Gallagher">Rory Gallagher</a>, <a title="Harvey Mandel" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvey_Mandel">Harvey Mandel</a>, <a title="Wayne Perkins" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_Perkins">Wayne Perkins</a>, <a title="Peter Frampton" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Frampton">Peter Frampton</a>, and <a title="Ron Wood" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Wood">Ron Wood</a>, although only Mandel's, Perkins' and Wood's guitar work would appear on the finished album. With much work to follow, it was decided to delay the album for the following year and release the <a title="Made in the Shade" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Made_in_the_Shade">Made in the Shade</a> <a title="Compilation album" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compilation_album">compilation</a> instead. "Cherry Oh Baby" (which was a cover version of an early <a title="Reggae" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reggae">reggae</a> song) would be the only song from the upcoming album even sporadically played on the Americas Tour.<br />Following the conclusion of the tour, The Rolling Stones went to <a title="Montreux" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreux">Montreux</a>, <a title="Switzerland" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switzerland">Switzerland</a> in October for some overdub work, while returning to Musicland Studios in Munich in December to perform similar duties. Upon their arrival at Musicland Studios, the Rolling Stones were reportedly amazed that <a title="Led Zeppelin" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Led_Zeppelin">Led Zeppelin</a> had recorded and mixed their entire album <a title="Presence" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presence">Presence</a> in a mere seventeen days, with Led Zeppelin's <a title="Jimmy Page" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Page">Jimmy Page</a> having stayed awake for two days straight to perform all of the guitar overdubs just before the arrival of the Rolling Stones.<br />After some final touch-ups, Black and Blue was completed in <a title="New York City" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City">New York City</a> in February 1976.<br />Stylistically, Black and Blue - so named for its <a title="Black music" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_music">black music</a> influences - embraces <a title="Funk" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funk">funk</a> with "Hot Stuff", <a title="Reggae" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reggae">reggae</a> with their cover of "Cherry Oh Baby" and <a title="Jazz" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jazz">jazz</a> with "Melody", featuring the talents of <a title="Billy Preston" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Preston">Billy Preston</a> - a heavy contributor to the album. Musical and thematic styles were merged on the seven-minute epic "Memory Motel", with both Jagger and Richards contributing lead vocals to a love song embedded within a life-on-the-road tale.<br />Released in April 1976 - with "Fool to Cry", a worldwide Top 10 hit, as its lead single - Black and Blue reached #2 in the UK and spent an interrupted four week spell at #1 in the US, going platinum there. Critical view was polarized, with some finding its emphasis on jamming a reflection of the perceived weak songwriting, while others consider it an undervalued gem.<br />The album was promoted with a controversial <a title="Billboard (advertising)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_%28advertising%29">billboard</a> on <a title="Sunset Boulevard" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunset_Boulevard">Sunset Boulevard</a> in <a title="Hollywood" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood">Hollywood</a> that depicted a bruised, bound woman under the phrase "I'm Black and Blue from the Rolling Stones — and I love it!" The billboard was removed after protests by the feminist group <a title="Women Against Pornography" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_Against_Pornography#Similar_groups">Women Against Violence Against Women</a>, although it earned the band widespread press coverage.<a title="" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_and_Blue#_note-0">[1]</a><br />Two extra tracks recorded in the Rotterdam sessions were later released on 1981's <a title="Tattoo You" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tattoo_You">Tattoo You</a>.<br />In 1994, Black and Blue was remastered and reissued by <a title="Virgin Records" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_Records">Virgin Records</a>.<br /><a id="Track_listing" name="Track_listing"></a><br />Track listing:<br /><br />All songs by <a title="Jagger/Richards" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagger/Richards">Mick Jagger and Keith Richards</a>, except where noted.<br /><br />"<a title="Hot Stuff (Rolling Stones song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_Stuff_%28Rolling_Stones_song%29">Hot Stuff</a>" – 5:20<br />"<a class="new" title="Hand of Fate (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hand_of_Fate_%28song%29&action=edit">Hand of Fate</a>" – 4:28<br />"<a class="new" title="Cherry Oh Baby" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cherry_Oh_Baby&action=edit">Cherry Oh Baby</a>" (<a title="Eric Donaldson" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Donaldson">Eric Donaldson</a>) – 3:53<br />"<a title="Memory Motel" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_Motel">Memory Motel</a>" – 7:07<br />"<a title="Hey Negrita (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hey_Negrita_%28song%29">Hey Negrita</a>" – 4:58<br />"<a class="new" title="Melody (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Melody_%28song%29&action=edit">Melody</a>" – 5:47 <br />"<a title="Fool to Cry" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fool_to_Cry">Fool to Cry</a>" – 5:04<br />"<a class="new" title="Crazy Mama" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Crazy_Mama&action=edit">Crazy Mama</a>" – 4:34<br /><br />Musicians:<br /><br />Mick Jagger - Vocals, Backing Vocals, Percussion, Guitar, Piano, Electric Piano<br />Keith Richards - Guitar, Backing Vocals, Vocals, Electric Piano, Bass<br />Charlie Watts - Drums, Percussion<br />Bill Wyman - Bass, Percussion<br />Ron Wood - Guitar, Backing Vocals<br />Ollie Brown - Percussion<br />Nicky Hopkins - Electric Piano, Organ, String Synthesizer<br />Harvey Mandel - Electric Guitar<br />Wayne Perkins - Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar<br />Billy Preston - Backing Vocals, Piano, Vocals, Organ, Keyboards, String Synthesizer<br />Ian Stewart - Percussion<br /><br />Link: <a href="http://sharebee.com/dbe6ea32">http://sharebee.com/dbe6ea32</a><br />Took from <a href="http://datoneto.blogspot.com/">http://datoneto.blogspot.com</a>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4360873736137190069.post-61141883074856828332007-12-30T06:17:00.000-08:002007-12-30T08:00:18.145-08:00Black Sabbath - Reunion<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmjZb7SEZUxFCTNzIuEo3cL6vNK0ZdNIxogAF_aUeCiLp47gfhKUynNfVIqpHdqAeUY-dCXJtzTzHCUw7BtKREd_2EUcQZPM2ycAIbiFC8xCd9oq6VSI-bGzCEbOgk1A9mkFbADGSC5O4/s1600-h/Sabbath_Reunion.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5149770310982746226" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmjZb7SEZUxFCTNzIuEo3cL6vNK0ZdNIxogAF_aUeCiLp47gfhKUynNfVIqpHdqAeUY-dCXJtzTzHCUw7BtKREd_2EUcQZPM2ycAIbiFC8xCd9oq6VSI-bGzCEbOgk1A9mkFbADGSC5O4/s320/Sabbath_Reunion.jpg" border="0" /></a> After the departure of vocalist Ozzy Osbourne in 1979, Black Sabbath's line-up slowly lost stability in late 1983 and never quite recovered.<br />Following a couple of one-off reunions in 1985 and 1992, the original line-up of <a title="Ozzy Osbourne" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozzy_Osbourne">Ozzy Osbourne</a>, <a title="Tony Iommi" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Iommi">Tony Iommi</a>, <a title="Geezer Butler" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geezer_Butler">Geezer Butler</a> and <a title="Bill Ward (musician)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Ward_%28musician%29">Bill Ward</a> got back together for good in 1997. This 2-CD live album was put together from the first two shows after the reunion, at the <a title="National Exhibition Centre" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Exhibition_Centre">Birmingham NEC</a>. Along with live versions of tracks such as "<a title="Paranoid (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paranoid_%28song%29">Paranoid</a>", "<a title="N.I.B." href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N.I.B.">N.I.B.</a>", "<a title="Black Sabbath (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sabbath_%28song%29">Black Sabbath</a>" and "<a title="Iron Man (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Man_%28song%29">Iron Man</a>", it also features two new studio tracks - "Selling My Soul" and "Psycho Man".<br />This was the only new material to have been officially released by Black Sabbath post-reunion until three new tracks appeared on the post-Ozzy compilation <a title="Black Sabbath: The Dio Years" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sabbath:_The_Dio_Years">Black Sabbath: The Dio Years</a> in 2007. The two new tracks on Reunion were also released on a single CD in the USA.<br />Though the band were considered legends by this time, this was the first "official" live album featuring Osbourne on vocals. 1980's <a title="Live at Last (Black Sabbath album)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_at_Last_%28Black_Sabbath_album%29">Live at Last</a> was not approved for release by the band.<br /><br /><br /><strong><em>Personnel</em></strong>:<br /><a title="Ozzy Osbourne" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozzy_Osbourne">Ozzy Osbourne</a> - Vocals<br /><a title="Tony Iommi" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Iommi">Tony Iommi</a> - Guitar<br /><a title="Geezer Butler" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geezer_Butler">Geezer Butler</a> - Bass<br /><a title="Bill Ward (musician)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Ward_%28musician%29">Bill Ward</a> - Drums<br /><br /><br /><strong><em>Songs:</em></strong><br /><strong>Disc 1<br /></strong>"<a title="War Pigs (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Pigs_%28song%29">War Pigs</a>" – 8:28<br />"Behind the Wall of Sleep" – 4:07<br />"<a title="N.I.B." href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N.I.B.">N.I.B.</a>" – 6:45<br />"<a title="Fairies Wear Boots" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairies_Wear_Boots">Fairies Wear Boots</a>" – 6:19<br />"<a title="Electric Funeral" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Funeral">Electric Funeral</a>" – 5:02<br />"<a title="Sweet Leaf" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_Leaf">Sweet Leaf</a>" – 5:07<br />"Spiral Architect" – 5:40<br />"<a title="Into the Void (Black Sabbath song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Into_the_Void_%28Black_Sabbath_song%29">Into the Void</a>" – 6:32<br />"<a title="Snowblind (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowblind_%28song%29">Snowblind</a>" – 6:08<br /><br /><br /><strong>Disc 2</strong><br />"<a title="Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabbath_Bloody_Sabbath_%28song%29">Sabbath Bloody Sabbath</a>" – 4:36<br />"Orchid/<a title="Lord of This World" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_of_This_World">Lord of This World</a>" – 7:07<br />"<a title="Dirty Women" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_Women">Dirty Women</a>" – 6:29<br />"<a title="Black Sabbath (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sabbath_%28song%29">Black Sabbath</a>" – 7:29<br />"<a title="Iron Man (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Man_%28song%29">Iron Man</a>" – 8:21<br />"<a title="Children of the Grave" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children_of_the_Grave">Children of the Grave</a>" – 6:30<br />"<a title="Paranoid (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paranoid_%28song%29">Paranoid</a>" – 4:28<br />"Psycho Man" (Osbourne, Iommi) – 5:18<br />"Selling My Soul" (Osbourne, Iommi) – 3:10<br /><br /><br />Link:<br /><a href="http://rapidshare.com/files/49268585/CD1.rar">http://rapidshare.com/files/49268585/CD1.rar</a><br /><a href="http://rapidshare.com/files/49286229/CD2.rar">http://rapidshare.com/files/49286229/CD2.rar</a>Jordökhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18052166527430650297noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4360873736137190069.post-51114124023937167092007-12-29T17:34:00.000-08:002008-01-02T07:53:29.914-08:00Frank Zappa - Sheik Yerbouti(1990)<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs4q067TPXHfQhzKDB2_ux0j7CcVVySp-Mw9k0NWgpM5j107JqiErSZkdrNmtKbv-xnBAQYBLLtsXd8f7riya-89mEhq-r2yJDumzaQJFNNWiKsv8M2WC4oxkojvftQ8LikGev9oKp1Lo/s1600-h/Sheik_Yerbouti.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5149574748236857426" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs4q067TPXHfQhzKDB2_ux0j7CcVVySp-Mw9k0NWgpM5j107JqiErSZkdrNmtKbv-xnBAQYBLLtsXd8f7riya-89mEhq-r2yJDumzaQJFNNWiKsv8M2WC4oxkojvftQ8LikGev9oKp1Lo/s320/Sheik_Yerbouti.jpg" border="0" /></a> Sheik Yerbouti (Shake Your Booty) is a double <a title="Vinyl record" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinyl_record">vinyl</a> album by <a title="Frank Zappa" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Zappa">Frank Zappa</a> featuring material recorded in 1977 and 1978. Records</a>, it emphasized the comedic aspect of his lyrics more than ever before, beginning a period of increased record sales and mainstream media attention.<br />The album featured more of Zappa's satirical and otherwise humorous or offensive material. "I Have Been in You" pokes fun at <a title="Peter Frampton" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Frampton">Peter Frampton</a>'s 1977 hit "<a title="I'm in You" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27m_in_You">I'm in You</a>" while maintaining a sexually driven structure. "Dancin' Fool", a <a title="Grammy" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy">Grammy</a> nominee, became a popular <a title="Disco" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disco">disco</a> hit despite its obvious parodical reflection of disco music."Flakes" parodies in parts Bob Dylan's Musical Style. "Jewish Princess", a humorous look at <a title="Jewish" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish">Jewish</a> stereotyping, attracted attention from the <a title="Anti-Defamation League" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Defamation_League">Anti-Defamation League</a>, to which Zappa denied an apology, arguing: "Well, I didn't make up the idea of a <a title="Jewish-American princess" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish-American_princess">Jewish Princess</a>. They exist, so I wrote a song about them".<br />Some of Zappa's solos from the album began life as improvisations from Zappa's earlier work. "Rat Tomago" was edited from a performance of "The Torture Never Stops", which originally appeared on <a title="Zoot Allures" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoot_Allures">Zoot Allures</a>; "The Sheik Yerbouti Tango" likewise from a live "Little House I Used to Live In", originally a <a title="Burnt Weeny Sandwich" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burnt_Weeny_Sandwich">Burnt Weeny Sandwich</a> track. The song "City of Tiny Lites" featured an animation video made by <a title="Bruce Bickford" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Bickford">Bruce Bickford</a> which featured on the <a title="Old Grey Whistle Test" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Grey_Whistle_Test">Old Grey Whistle Test</a>.<br />Almost entirely live, the album features two short studio recordings, both falling under a minute, which open and close "Rat Tomago". "Rubber Shirt" was heavily doctored by Zappa in the studio using bits and pieces of <a title="Terry Bozzio" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Bozzio">Terry Bozzio</a> and <a title="Patrick O'Hearn" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_O%27Hearn">Patrick O'Hearn</a>'s <a title="Drum" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drum">drum</a> and <a title="Bass guitar" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_guitar">bass</a> playing, respectively. It was produced by <a title="Trident Studios" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trident_Studios">Trident Studios</a>' in-house producer <a title="John Anthony" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Anthony">John Anthony</a>. The album was recorded in 1971, in the midst of one of VdGG's most prolific periods, shortly before the production of their "magnum opus" <a title="Pawn Hearts" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pawn_Hearts">Pawn Hearts</a>. Hammill used the album to record a backlog of songs which were much shorter and simpler than his VdGG material, and declared on the original album sleeve: "This isn't intended to be any kind of statement of my present musical position, but at the same time, it is an album which involves a great deal of me, the person, basically a return to the roots."<br />Fool's Mate includes one of Hammill's most celebrated love songs, "Vision", which he still performs regularly in concert to the present day. Guest musicians on the album included the members of VdGG, members of his label mates <a title="Lindisfarne (band)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindisfarne_%28band%29">Lindisfarne</a>, and guitarist <a title="Robert Fripp" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Fripp">Robert Fripp</a>.<br />The UK music press was generally very positive about Fool's Mate. <a title="Melody Maker" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melody_Maker">Melody Maker</a> saw "one of THE albums of the year".<br />The cover was designed by <a title="Paul Whitehead" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Whitehead">Paul Whitehead</a> who at the time was the favourite cover artist for <a title="Charisma Records" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charisma_Records">Charisma</a> bands <a title="Genesis (band)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genesis_%28band%29">Genesis</a> and <a title="Van der Graaf Generator" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_der_Graaf_Generator">Van der Graaf Generator</a>.<br />In <a title="2005" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005">2005</a> the album was issued in remastered form by <a title="EMI" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMI">EMI</a> <a title="Virgin Records" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_Records">Virgin</a> Records, supplemented with bonus demo recordings of several songs.<br /><br /><strong><em>Songs:<br /></em></strong>"Imperial Zeppelin"<br />"Candle"<br />"Happy"<br />"Solitude"<br />"Vision"<br />"Re-Awakening"<br />"Sunshine"<br />"Child"<br />"Summer Song (In The Autumn)"<br />"Viking"<br />"The Birds"<br />"I Once Wrote Some Poems"<br /><br />Link:<a href="http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?bz25ctlyvxr">http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?bz25ctlyvxr</a>Jordökhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18052166527430650297noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4360873736137190069.post-30087880302095137522007-12-29T16:55:00.000-08:002007-12-29T17:06:57.430-08:00Peter Hammil - The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage(1974)<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5haufXPnthZdeEY6wWxPYmiNsW0KIFMsjjhbsftrsAsDzDYYKwL-Hdh5uVKhAW3o0urezMTRfLWJH8x78I5phUcF_o2id1q4ssvL4lAQFouxy_eq4wsoqWgACEF0XHYWZ5UgmShOdl-U/s1600-h/Hammill_Silent.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5149565823294816290" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5haufXPnthZdeEY6wWxPYmiNsW0KIFMsjjhbsftrsAsDzDYYKwL-Hdh5uVKhAW3o0urezMTRfLWJH8x78I5phUcF_o2id1q4ssvL4lAQFouxy_eq4wsoqWgACEF0XHYWZ5UgmShOdl-U/s320/Hammill_Silent.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage is an album by British <a title="Singer-songwriter" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singer-songwriter">singer-songwriter</a> <a title="Peter Hammill" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Hammill">Peter Hammill</a>. It was released on <a title="Charisma Records" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charisma_Records">Charisma Records</a> in 1974, during a hiatus in the activities of Hammill's <a title="Progressive rock" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_rock">progressive rock</a> band <a title="Van der Graaf Generator" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_der_Graaf_Generator">Van der Graaf Generator</a>. However, like many of Hammill's "solo" albums of this period, all the members of Van der Graaf Generator perform on the recording, blurring the distinction between solo and group work.<br />Hammill has often performed the song "Modern" in concert.<br />"Red Shift" features <a title="Spirit (band)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirit_%28band%29">Spirit</a> guitarist <a title="Randy California" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_California">Randy California</a> on lead guitar.<br />The lengthy "A Louse is not a Home" is a full blown prog rock epic, featuring melodramatic lyrics reminiscent of gothic horror writer <a title="Edgar Allan Poe" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_Allan_Poe">Edgar Allan Poe</a>'s short story <a title="The Fall of the House of Usher" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fall_of_the_House_of_Usher">The Fall of the House of Usher</a>, upon which Hammill would later base an <a title="The Fall of the House of Usher (opera)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fall_of_the_House_of_Usher_%28opera%29">opera</a>.<br />The enigmatic cover was designed by <a class="new" title="Bettina Hohls" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bettina_Hohls&action=edit">Bettina Hohls</a>, ex-member of the <a title="Psychedelic rock" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychedelic_rock">psychedelic</a> German rock band <a title="Ash Ra Tempel" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ash_Ra_Tempel">Ash Ra Tempel</a>. It was released in October 1971 by Capitol Records. A departure in style from their previous albums, A Space in Time is more of a Pop album. It also contains their biggest hit, <a class="new" title="I'd Love To Change The World (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=I%27d_Love_To_Change_The_World_%28song%29&action=edit">I'd Love To Change The World</a>, the third track on the album. It is also AC/DC's fourth international studio album. All songs were written by <a title="Angus Young" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angus_Young">Angus Young</a>, <a title="Malcolm Young" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Young">Malcolm Young</a>, and <a title="Bon Scott" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bon_Scott">Bon Scott</a>. Angus and Malcom Young have cited the album as their favorite. Many die-hard fans agree it's one of their strongest if not their best.<br />It was originally released on <a title="Atlantic Records" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_Records">Atlantic Records</a>, and reached #133 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart in the <a title="United States" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States">US</a>, eventually going platinum there. The album was re-released in 2003 as part of the <a title="AC/DC Remasters" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC/DC_Remasters">AC/DC Remasters</a> series.<br />Overview:<br /><br />Powerage is the first AC/DC album to be released nearly simultaneously in both Australian and international markets, and the first to use just one cover image for both. It was also the first to feature the same track listing on all versions, with the exception of European vinyl editions. These included "<a title="Cold Hearted Man" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_Hearted_Man">Cold Hearted Man</a>", a song that has not been officially released on any other AC/DC album, and some omitted "<a title="Rock 'n' Roll Damnation" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_%27n%27_Roll_Damnation">Rock 'n' Roll Damnation</a>".<br />Powerage marked the studio debut of <a title="Bassist" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bassist">bassist</a> <a title="Cliff Williams" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cliff_Williams">Cliff Williams</a>. It was the first AC/DC album to be co-produced by Angus Young, and the band's last Bon Scott-era studio release to feature production work by <a title="Harry Vanda" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Vanda">Harry Vanda</a> and <a title="George Young (rock musician)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Young_%28rock_musician%29">George Young</a>.<br /><a id="Track_listing" name="Track_listing"></a><br />Track listing:<br /><a id="Australian_.2F_US_.26_all_CD_releases" name="Australian_.2F_US_.26_all_CD_releases"></a><br />Australian / US & all CD releases:<br /><br />"<a title="Rock 'n' Roll Damnation" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_%27n%27_Roll_Damnation">Rock 'n' Roll Damnation</a>" – 3:37<br />"<a title="Down Payment Blues" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Down_Payment_Blues">Down Payment Blues</a>" – 6:03<br />"<a title="Gimme A Bullet" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimme_A_Bullet">Gimme A Bullet</a>" – 3:21<br />"<a title="Riff Raff (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riff_Raff_%28song%29">Riff Raff</a>" – 5:11<br />"<a title="Sin City (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sin_City_%28song%29">Sin City</a>" – 4:45<br />"<a title="What's Next to the Moon" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What%27s_Next_to_the_Moon">What's Next to the Moon</a>" – 3:31<br />"<a title="Gone Shootin'" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gone_Shootin%27">Gone Shootin'</a>" – 5:05<br />"<a title="Up to My Neck in You" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Up_to_My_Neck_in_You">Up to My Neck in You</a>" – 4:13<br />"<a title="Kicked in the Teeth" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kicked_in_the_Teeth">Kicked in the Teeth</a>" – 4:03<br /><br /><ul><li>All songs composed by <a title="Angus Young" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angus_Young">Angus Young</a>, <a title="Malcolm Young" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Young">Malcolm Young</a>, and <a title="Bon Scott" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bon_Scott">Bon Scott</a>. </li><li>Some cassette copies, such as the original Canadian issue had an alternate track listing. The studio version of "Whole Lotta Rosie" is frequently referenced as one of the greatest rock guitar tracks of all time. It was also the last AC/DC recording to feature bassist <a title="Mark Evans" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Evans">Mark Evans</a>, who previously played on the international versions of <a title="High Voltage (International album)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Voltage_%28International_album%29">High Voltage</a> (May 1976) and <a title="Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (International album)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_Deeds_Done_Dirt_Cheap_%28International_album%29">Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap</a> (December 1976).<br />As with AC/DC's previous albums, there were differences between the international and <a title="Let There Be Rock (Australian album)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let_There_Be_Rock_%28Australian_album%29">Australian edition</a> of Let There Be Rock, released in March 1977. For the US market (and later for the CD releases), the Australian version's racy "<a title="Crabsody In Blue" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crabsody_In_Blue">Crabsody In Blue</a>" was replaced with a shortened version of "<a title="Problem Child (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Problem_Child_%28song%29">Problem Child</a>" from AC/DC's <a title="Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (Australian album)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_Deeds_Done_Dirt_Cheap_%28Australian_album%29">Dirty Deeds Done Cheap</a>, released in September 1976. The international version also has a slightly modified track order.<br />Additionally, the international version of Let There Be Rock featured a different cover from that of the original. This cover marked the debut of AC/DC's classic logo. The Australian edition was eventually repackaged with the international version's cover, marking the first time an Australian AC/DC album cover was matched to its corresponding international edition.<br />In 1980, AC/DC released a live <a title="Concert" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concert">concert</a> <a title="Motion picture" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_picture">motion picture</a> entitled <a title="AC/DC: Let There Be Rock (movie)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC/DC:_Let_There_Be_Rock_%28movie%29">AC/DC: Let There Be Rock</a>. However, "Love at First Feel" was released in Australia as a single.<br />Two songs on the international album were edited from the full length versions on the original Australian album. The full length "Dirty Deeds" has the title of the song chanted 4 times starting at 3:09, but on the edited version the chant is heard only 2 times. "Ain't No Fun" lasted 7:29 on the Australian album but was faded out early to 6:57 on the international version. However, both these full length versions were restored on the 1994 <a title="Atco Records" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atco_Records">Atco Records</a> remastered CD of the international album. The most recent 2003 CD edition on <a title="Epic Records" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_Records">Epic Records</a> goes back to the edited versions as on the 1976 and 1981 international vinyl editions.<br />Though the international album was released by <a title="Atlantic Records" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_Records">Atlantic Records</a> in Europe in 1976 it was not picked up for U.S. release at the time. Following the American success of Highway To Hell in late 1979 copies of the international album, manufactured in Australia by Atlantic, began to appear as imports in the U.S. alongside the original Australian edition of the album on <a title="Albert Productions" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Productions">Albert Productions</a>. Intense demand for both import versions led Atlantic to finally authorize the first U.S. release in April 1981.<br />Additionally, a song titled "<a title="I'm a Rebel (AC/DC song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27m_a_Rebel_%28AC/DC_song%29">I'm a Rebel</a>" was recorded during the Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap sessions in September 1976, with music and lyrics written by <a title="Angus Young" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angus_Young">Angus</a> and <a title="Malcolm Young" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Young">Malcolm Young</a>'s older brother, Alex Young. This song was never released and remains in <a title="Albert Productions" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Productions">Albert Productions</a>' vaults.<br />Angus came up with the title of the album when he was watching an episode of Beany And Cecil. The antagonist, Dishonest John, carried a card that read: "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Special Holidays, Sundays and Rates".<br /><a id="Track_listing" name="Track_listing"></a><br />Track listing:<br /><br />All songs composed by <a title="Angus Young" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angus_Young">Angus Young</a>, <a title="Malcolm Young" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Young">Malcolm Young</a>, and <a title="Bon Scott" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bon_Scott">Bon Scott</a>.<br />"<a title="Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_Deeds_Done_Dirt_Cheap_%28song%29">Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap</a>" – 4:11 (full length version) 3:51 (edited version)<br />"<a title="Love at First Feel" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_at_First_Feel">Love at First Feel</a>" – 3:10<br />"<a title="Big Balls" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Balls">Big Balls</a>" – 2:38<br />"<a title="Rocker (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocker_%28song%29">Rocker</a>" – 2:49<br />"<a title="Problem Child (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Problem_Child_%28song%29">Problem Child</a>" – 5:44<br />"<a title="There's Gonna Be Some Rockin'" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/There%27s_Gonna_Be_Some_Rockin%27">There's Gonna Be Some Rockin'</a>" – 3:17<br />"<a title="Ain't No Fun (Waiting Round to Be a Millionaire)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ain%27t_No_Fun_%28Waiting_Round_to_Be_a_Millionaire%29">Ain't No Fun (Waiting Round to Be a Millionaire)</a>" – 7:29 (full length version), 6:57 (edited version)<br />"<a title="Ride On (AC/DC song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ride_On_%28AC/DC_song%29">Ride On</a>" – 5:49<br />"<a title="Squealer" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squealer">Squealer</a>" – 5:14<br /><br /><ul><li>Most editions of this album contain edited versions of the title track and "Ain't No Fun (Waiting Round to Be a Millionaire)." Eight of the album's nine songs were written by <a title="Angus Young" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angus_Young">Angus Young</a>, <a title="Malcolm Young" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Young">Malcolm Young</a>, and <a title="Bon Scott" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bon_Scott">Bon Scott</a>. "<a title="Can I Sit Next to You Girl" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Can_I_Sit_Next_to_You_Girl">Can I Sit Next to You Girl</a>" was written by Young & Young.<br />Originally released on <a title="Atlantic Records" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_Records">Atlantic Records</a>, this edition of High Voltage has proven popular, selling 3 million units in the <a title="United States" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States">United States</a> alone. However, the album was panned by some critics upon its release, including a review by Rolling Stone magazine that called it an "all-time low" for the hard rock genre. It was re-released in 2003 as part of the <a title="AC/DC Remasters" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC/DC_Remasters">AC/DC Remasters</a> series.<br /><a id="Overview" name="Overview"></a><br />Overview:<br /><br />The international version of High Voltage bears almost no relation to the <a title="High Voltage (Australian album)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Voltage_%28Australian_album%29">Australian release</a>. It is a compilation of songs from AC/DC's first two Australian studio albums, with only two tracks from the original High Voltage (released February 1975) and seven from <a title="T.N.T. (album)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T.N.T._%28album%29">T.N.T.</a> (released December 1975).<br />This edition of High Voltage also has a strikingly different cover than the original, marking the first AC/DC album cover to prominently feature Angus Young. Additionally, a third cover (see image) was used on the international version's original European release.<br /><a id="Track_listing" name="Track_listing"></a><br />Track listing:<br /><br />All songs composed by <a title="Angus Young" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angus_Young">Angus Young</a>, <a title="Malcolm Young" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Young">Malcolm Young</a>, and <a title="Bon Scott" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bon_Scott">Bon Scott</a>, except where noted.<br /><br />"<a title="It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_a_Long_Way_to_the_Top_%28If_You_Wanna_Rock_%27n%27_Roll%29">It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)</a>" – 5:01 (vinyl), 5:12 (CD)<br />"<a title="Rock 'n' Roll Singer (song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_%27n%27_Roll_Singer_%28song%29">Rock 'n' Roll Singer</a>" – 5:03<br />"<a title="The Jack" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jack">The Jack</a>" – 5:52<br />"<a title="Live Wire (AC/DC song)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_Wire_%28AC/DC_song%29">Live Wire</a>" – 5:49<br />"<a title="T.N.T.
